Almost all the small businesses I speak with on a daily basis have the same challenge, finding enough prospects to sell to and winning new business. The challenge is unending, as sales people; we can always do with more.
When speaking to clients about CRM, one of the classic questions that I am faced with is, ‘which came first, the chicken or the egg?’, or in businesses terms, ‘if I had more business then I could justify a CRM’. My view on this is a CRM system will help you work smarter in your business to drive new business, and fundamentally pay for itself in increased productivity and sales.
A CRM system is as fundamental to the selling process as other tools, a laptop, mobile phone or an Excel spread sheet. Without an effective CRM solution in place, a business has no accurate way of: viewing prospects already contacted, qualified / qualified out, diarised for future action, abandoned, lost, suspended, etc.

CRM tools (software) are an accumulation of global knowledge of Sales, Marketing and Service management, designed to enable businesses (micro, SME or Enterprise) to implement business practice, to drive marketing, customer service and fundamentally sales forward.
So which came first, chicken or egg. In my experience, if you invest in a CRM solution (regardless of how small a business you are) you will be able to win more new business, than doing what you always do without a CRM.
